Prevention

Prevention costs less than treatment — in time, money and wellbeing. With regular check-ups and education, we keep the whole family's smile healthy for years to come.

What it is

Prevention is the set of actions that stop tooth decay, gum disease and other oral health problems from developing, or that catch them while they are still easy to treat. It is at the heart of our philosophy: we believe that caring for a smile means, above all, keeping it healthy rather than repairing it.

When it’s needed

  • Always and at every age: from children to older adults.
  • As a routine check-up, even when there are no symptoms.
  • In children, to protect newly erupted teeth.
  • In anyone at higher risk (frequent decay, gum disease, braces, smoking, diabetes).
  • During pregnancy, to manage the gum changes typical of this time.

How we treat it

  1. Check-up appointments. Regular reviews to catch decay and gum problems while they are still minor, with recall intervals tailored to your level of risk.
  2. Professional cleaning. Scaling and air-flow at personalised intervals to keep bacterial levels low.
  3. Fissure sealing. In children and teenagers, the application of a protective resin over the grooves of the molars, where decay develops most easily.
  4. Fluoride treatment. Applications of fluoride to strengthen the enamel in those at risk.
  5. Education and motivation. We teach correct brushing technique and the use of floss and interdental brushes, with advice on diet and habits.

Benefits

  • Less decay and less treatment: simpler, less costly procedures.
  • Healthy teeth and gums for longer.
  • Savings of time and money in the long run.
  • Good habits for the whole family, from an early age.

FAQ

How often should I have a check-up?

Usually every 6 to 12 months, but the ideal frequency depends on your individual risk. We’ll let you know what’s right for you.

Is fissure sealing useful for adults too?

It is designed mainly for the teeth of children and teenagers, but in selected cases it can also be considered for adults.

Is fluoride safe?

Yes, when used in the right way and at the correct doses it is a valuable ally against decay. We tailor its use to age and risk.

I’m afraid of the dentist — does prevention help?

Very much. Regular check-ups mean smaller, rarer treatments: the best way to feel at ease with the dentist is to avoid ever reaching an emergency.
