Orthodontics

We straighten teeth and correct the way the jaws meet, for a harmonious smile and a healthy bite — using either fixed braces or clear aligners.

What it is

Orthodontics is concerned with the position of the teeth and the relationship between the jaws (the bite). It is not purely a cosmetic matter: well-aligned teeth are easier to keep clean, wear down evenly and place less strain on the teeth and joints. It is suitable both for children, during their growing years, and for adults.

When it’s needed

  • Crooked, crowded or widely spaced teeth.
  • An incorrect bite: deep bite, open bite, crossbite or protruding bite.
  • Difficulty cleaning caused by crowding, with a higher risk of decay and gum inflammation.
  • In children, to identify growth problems early in the developing jawbones.
  • Before fitting a prosthesis or implants, to create the correct amount of space.

How we treat it

  1. Orthodontic assessment. An examination, photographs, X-rays (panoramic and lateral cephalometric) and a digital impression taken with an intraoral scanner to study the teeth and the bite.
  2. Treatment plan. A simulation of the result and a choice of the most suitable appliance for the patient’s age and goals.
  3. Fitting the appliance.
  • Fixed braces (metal brackets or tooth-coloured ceramic) for precise tooth movement, even in complex cases.
  • Removable clear aligners: custom-made trays that are discreet and comfortable, ideal for adults.
  • Removable/functional appliances in children, to guide jaw growth.
  1. Regular check-ups. Adjustments and reviews at set intervals to guide the movement of the teeth.
  2. Retention. Once treatment is complete, a fixed or removable retainer keeps the result stable over time.

Benefits

  • A more harmonious smile and greater confidence.
  • Easier oral hygiene: a lower risk of decay and gum disease.
  • A balanced bite, with less wear on the teeth.
  • Discreet solutions (ceramic braces or aligners), even for those who work with the public.

FAQ

Is there a maximum age for braces?

No. Teeth can be straightened at any age, provided the gums and bone are healthy. More and more adults are choosing clear aligners.

Do clear aligners work as well as fixed braces?

In many cases, yes. Whether they are suitable depends on the type of problem, which we assess during the diagnostic stage.

How long does treatment take?

It varies considerably from case to case, from a few months to a couple of years. You will receive a clear estimate in your treatment plan.

Are braces painful?

In the first few days after they are fitted or adjusted, you may feel some pressure or mild discomfort, but this soon passes.
