What it is
A dental prosthesis replaces missing teeth or restores those that are severely damaged, bringing back both function (chewing and speech) and aesthetics. It can be fixed (cemented or screwed in place and not removable by the patient) or removable (taken out for cleaning), and today it is made from advanced materials such as ceramic and zirconia, which are both attractive and hard-wearing.
When it’s needed
- To rebuild a badly broken-down or root-treated tooth (crown).
- To replace one or more missing teeth (bridge or implant-supported prosthesis).
- To replace many teeth or entire arches (partial or full prosthesis).
- To stabilise a denture by anchoring it to implants (overdenture).
How we treat it
- Prosthetic plan. After the diagnosis, we decide on the solution best suited to your needs, appearance and budget, with a simulation of the result where helpful.
- Preparation. Depending on the case: conservative shaping of the tooth for a crown, preliminary treatments, or placement of implants for support.
- Digital impression. Taken with an intraoral scanner, which is more accurate and comfortable than traditional impression pastes, and sent to the dental laboratory.
- Try-in and refinement. Checks of fit, colour and bite for a natural, functional result.
- Fitting. Cementing or screwing in the fixed prosthesis, or delivery and adjustment of the removable prosthesis, along with guidance on use and cleaning.
- Follow-up. Regular reviews to maintain comfort and function over time.
Benefits
- You chew properly again and speak with confidence.
- Natural aesthetics with ceramic and zirconia.
- Tailored solutions, fixed or removable, to suit the case and your preferences.
- Protects the remaining teeth and the balance of the arch.
FAQ
Is a fixed or removable prosthesis better?
It depends on the number of missing teeth, the amount of bone available and your preferences. A fixed prosthesis is more stable and natural; a removable one is more affordable and the right choice in certain cases. We assess this together.
Do zirconia crowns look obvious?
No: zirconia and all-ceramic materials reproduce the translucency and colour of a natural tooth, so they look very natural even on the front teeth.
How long does a prosthesis last?
Many years, with good oral hygiene and regular check-ups. Maintenance is key to how long it lasts.
Does a removable prosthesis move when I eat?
A well-made prosthesis is stable; if necessary, it can be anchored to implants (an overdenture) for a much firmer hold.
