What it is
Diagnosis is the stage at which we gather all the information needed to understand the health of your teeth, gums, bone and joints. It is the foundation on which every treatment is built: a precise diagnosis avoids unnecessary procedures and allows us to choose the most suitable, long-lasting solution.
When it’s needed
- At your first visit, so we can get to know you and record your starting point.
- When you have pain, swelling or bleeding whose cause you do not know.
- Before complex treatments (implants, orthodontics, prosthetics).
- As a routine check-up, to catch decay and gum problems early.
- For a second opinion on a treatment plan already proposed elsewhere.
How we treat it
- Medical history. We take your clinical history and understand your needs: pain, appearance, function and any ongoing treatments.
- Clinical examination. A check of your teeth, gums, soft tissues and bite, including screening of the tissues of the mouth.
- Digital imaging.
- Intraoral X-rays for decay and roots.
- A panoramic X-ray for an overall view of the jaws.
- 3D cone beam CT (CBCT) when the bone and surrounding structures need to be assessed (for example, for implants), using low doses.
- An intraoral scanner for digital impressions without paste — more comfortable and more accurate.
- Treatment plan. We present the available options, with clear timescales and priorities and a written estimate, so you can make an informed decision.
Benefits
- Clarity: you know exactly what the situation is and what needs to be done.
- Precision: digital tools reduce errors and unnecessary procedures.
- Comfort: digital impressions instead of traditional pastes.
- No surprises: timescales and costs agreed in advance.
FAQ
Is the first visit demanding?
No. It is an introductory appointment in which we assess your situation and answer your questions, with no obligation to go ahead.
Are X-rays safe?
Modern equipment, in particular cone beam CT, uses reduced doses. We only prescribe X-rays when they are necessary for the diagnosis.
Do I need to bring anything?
Yes: any previous X-rays or records and a list of the medicines you take. They help us assess your case more accurately.
Will I receive an estimate?
Yes, always in clear written form, setting out the treatment priorities.
