Implantology

We replace missing teeth with titanium implants: new teeth that are fixed, stable and natural-looking, so you can bite and smile with confidence again.

What it is

A dental implant is a small screw made of titanium, a biocompatible material, that is placed in the jawbone and acts as an artificial tooth root. After a healing period in which the implant fuses with the bone — a process known as osseointegration — a crown, a bridge or a whole arch is fixed onto it. The result is a fixed tooth that does not move and blends naturally with the rest of your smile.

When it’s needed

  • To replace a single tooth without grinding down the healthy neighbouring teeth, as a traditional bridge would require.
  • To replace several missing teeth with fixed solutions instead of a removable denture.
  • To stabilise a loose denture by anchoring it to a few implants (an overdenture).
  • To halt the bone loss that follows the loss of a tooth.

How we treat it

  1. 3D diagnosis. An examination, X-rays and, where indicated, a cone beam CT scan (CBCT) to assess the volume and quality of the bone and the position of the anatomical structures. Using an intraoral scanner and digital planning, we design the ideal position of the implant before surgery.
  2. Placing the implant. Minimally invasive placement under local anaesthetic, where possible with a guided surgical template for maximum precision, in one of our three operating rooms with certified sterilisation protocols.
  3. Osseointegration. A healing period (usually from a few weeks to several months) in which the implant fuses with the bone. Where needed, we fit an aesthetic, functional temporary solution.
  4. Final restoration. A digital impression is taken and the bespoke crown or bridge is fitted, in ceramic/zirconia for natural appearance and chewing.
  5. Maintenance. Dedicated hygiene and regular check-ups to keep the implant healthy over time.

Benefits

  • Fixed, stable teeth: you bite and speak naturally, with no fear of them moving.
  • Preserves healthy teeth: there is no need to grind down the adjacent teeth.
  • Protects the bone: it stimulates the bone and prevents it from being reabsorbed over time.
  • Natural appearance: the crown is made bespoke for your smile.

FAQ

Is the procedure painful?

Placement is carried out under local anaesthetic and is generally well tolerated. Mild discomfort in the following days is normal and is easily managed with the medication prescribed.

How long does an implant last?

With good hygiene and regular check-ups it can last many years. Maintenance is the most important factor in how long it lasts.

Am I a suitable candidate for implants?

Most people are. With an examination and 3D diagnosis we assess the bone and your general condition and, if necessary, the options for making you suitable (e.g. grafts).

What if I don’t have enough bone?

There are bone regeneration techniques, or implants of dedicated sizes and angles. We assess this together using the CT scan.

How long does the whole process take?

It depends on the case: from placement to the final restoration can take a few weeks or months, the time needed for proper osseointegration. We’ll set this out clearly in your treatment plan.
